Music Bio – Dale McGowan
DALE McGOWAN graduated from UC Berkeley with honors in music, then studied film scoring at UCLA before conducting a college orchestra and earning a Ph.D. in Composition from the University of Minnesota.
Dale taught music theory, music history, orchestration, and music appreciation at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, MN for 12 years, earning the university’s Faculty Teaching Award. His compositions have won the Boston Art Song and American Composers Forum competitions and have premiered in the US and UK.
Dale now teaches music at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. He is currently at work on How Music Does That, a book about how music communicates emotion, and hosts a podcast of the same name.
